The dining room had a wonderfully moody feel, while the bar was lively. We came back from a lovely Valentine’s meal completely impressed, and we’ll return when we’re in the area again. John greeted us and seated us in the bar, but the table felt too small for me at 6ft and my partner at 6ft 6. He moved us to a better spot in the dining room corner without any fuss. Edie looked after us brilliantly. We shared warm, soft, salted focaccia, then I had steak and chips and my partner had pork belly with beef dripping new potatoes. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the pork was so tender it seemed to fall apart over the carrots. No notes.

The team are such a charming bunch, and the relaxed, friendly feel makes the place special. In the evenings, the candlelight makes it wonderfully cosy, with stylish decor and a good wine list too. The food is worthy of a Michelin star. It’s tucked away in a lovely woodland-meets-village-green setting. It takes me 36 minutes to drive there, but it’s very much worth the effort. Another fabulous dinner at the Bath Arms.

We had a peaceful two-day break with our dog. The room was lovely and comfortable, with a relaxing roll-top bath, and there are great walks nearby. The staff were kind and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. It was also lovely to see Jon again, whom we’d met on a previous stay at the hotel in Hinton St George. I’d highly recommend the hotel for a quiet break.

We’d only planned to stop for a Sunday roast on the drive back from Cornwall, but the food was so delicious, the pub so beautiful, and the service so excellent that we stayed for dinner and breakfast too. Staying the night was the best decision. A special thank you to John and his team for taking such good care of us. We’ll be back.

We stayed two nights with our dog. The rooms were nice, the heating worked well, and there was plenty of hot water. Everyone on staff was helpful, and Jon, the new manager, was great. The food was superb. It was the best confit of duck I’ve ever had, and we live in France. Our daughter came on another occasion and said the Sunday roast was the best she’d ever had. She owns a catering company. There was nothing to dislike, and they even left out a bottle of dog shampoo for our hound. Highly recommend a stay.
