For the price, this accommodation is hard to fault. I was in Huddersfield for a job interview and stayed one night. The room was comfortable, the shared bathroom really clean, and the beds very comfortable. Staff were incredibly welcoming and went out of their way to help, including getting me a fan in the warm weather and printing documents for me in advance. The rooms are above a lively pub, but I wasn’t bothered by noise on a weeknight. I’d definitely recommend it for a short stay.

I’m only rating the pub’s bed and breakfast rooms. The beds are decent, and there’s a fan for hot nights, though I couldn’t work out how to open the windows. Guests can use a small kitchen with a fridge, cooker, stove, microwave, kettle and so on, plus a washing machine and ironing set. Breakfast is served only on Saturdays and Sundays, from 10am to 1pm. The full English was decent and cost around £3-4, not included. Staff are nice, but it gets a bit loud in the evening until the pub closes at midnight. The windows don’t insulate well, so you hear some road noise, including quite a few police cars and ambulances going past. I woke up about 1-3 times a night. I’m not sure about Huddersfield prices, but around £90 for two nights for two adults seemed fine to me.

Stopped in for a pint after walking from town. It was karaoke night, and the Carling was nice.

I booked one night and messaged ahead with my arrival time, explaining I’d be late because of road closures. They replied that check-in was until 10pm. Despite the delays, I got there before 10, and a nice gentleman helped me check in. The room was basic but warm enough. After six hours on the road, I was exhausted, so I went to bed and got up early. The next morning I went into town to take care of a couple of things, then came back at 10:15, planning to shower, change and leave by the 11am checkout. A woman told me another guest was coming, said she’d packed my things, and put my luggage in the living area while she cleaned the room. I was stunned. It was only 10:20. I didn’t want to argue or let it ruin my day, so I went to the living area, made coffee and tried to relax. At 10:45 she came back and said I could stay only another 15 minutes and had to leave at 11. That was too much. I told her I’d paid to use my room until 11, not to sit in the living area, and that she had no right to enter my room and pack my luggage. She said she needed to clean because the next guest was arriving early. I pointed out that check-in was at 2pm, leaving plenty of time to clean between 11 and 2. If the guest arrived early, he would have to wait. She kept repeating the same excuse. I asked whether she’d throw me out of bed if the guest arrived at 4am. She didn’t seem to understand and just kept saying she had to clean. She had no idea how to deal with guests or speak to them, and offered no apology or even basic courtesy. I’ve travelled and stayed in many places across many countries, and I’ve never encountered such poor manners in a hospitality business. It was a terrible experience, and I wouldn’t stay here or recommend it. They shouldn’t be in the hospitality business.
