The Old School House

The spicy bean roll really was spicy, which was a lovely surprise, and both cakes were delicious. I especially liked that there were walnuts through the sponge in the walnut and coffee cake. We arrived at 4pm, right as they were closing, and luckily they still had cake, so we took slices and a roll away. They were very kind about serving us, though please plan better than we did and don’t turn up at closing time by accident. There are some great pubs nearby, but instead of the usual brownie and vanilla ice cream dessert, I’d pick up a slice of cake here for after dinner.

We were lucky enough to get the last scones, so don’t leave it too late in the day. They were light and fluffy, and we weren’t the only people saying how good they were. Very reasonably priced too. A lovely first visit to The Old School House, and I’ll certainly return. A real gem in the North Yorkshire Moors.

The flapjack was great, and the coffee was the best cup I’ve had in Yorkshire in a long time. We came across this little place by accident, and I’m glad we did. The cakes all looked lovely, though I didn’t try them, and the staff were helpful and really friendly. Highly recommended, five stars! 😄

I got such a warm welcome even though I was soaked through, and they took really good care of me. The food, service, atmosphere and venue were all excellent, with both the savoury and sweet dishes impressing me. I could happily move in for the homemade cakes. I went back the next day because it was so good, and I’ll probably be on my way there again now for more cake. The staff were excellent, busy as they were, and still made time for everyone. Highly recommend.
