We didn’t want to make a fuss during a short stay, but with the house costing what it does, these problems are worth mentioning. The one key we were given worked for the house, but the spare keys in the kitchen bowl seemed useless on every door we tried. We had no instructions, and the door between the single-bed room and another bedroom wouldn’t stay shut, so we wedged it with a chair. The beds squeaked loudly enough that we could hear people turning over in other rooms, and the WiFi extensions still didn’t get a signal to every bedroom. There were also upkeep issues. Cobwebs covered the stairs and ceilings, and kitchen items were sticky despite a card saying the house had been cleaned and signed off by two people. A security deposit is charged, but broken things and items apparently missed by earlier guests hadn’t been dealt with. The coal wasn’t replenished and some games were broken, which left us wondering what the deposit was for. The kitchen didn’t feel equipped for a house sleeping eight. The fridge was small, freezer drawers were broken, and we had to wash plates and cups before use. The old, scratched pans didn’t seem safe, and the oven, hob and microwave all looked worn. Food came out either burnt or undercooked. The bathrooms were another letdown. There are two full bathrooms and an extra toilet. The upstairs shower had no pressure and no detachable head, and it wasn’t draining, so we stopped using it. Hot water was meant to be on demand, but it ran out partway through showers or didn’t heat at all until we found the thermostat’s boost setting. It would have helped to be told about that.
