The New Inn

We had a lovely Mother's Day evening here. The pub felt cosy and had a good atmosphere, and the service was outstanding, with no long wait for our meal. The food was delicious, piping hot and served with lovely fresh vegetables. I'd definitely recommend it to friends.

After a walk around the beautiful village and church, this is a great spot for a drink or a meal. It's the only pub in Winchelsea, and the staff are lovely and friendly. I can't say much about the food since I always order the same thing, the clam chowder. It's on the menu year round and always superb. My husband always gets the burger. In summer, there's a beautiful secluded beer garden across the car park, and they'll bring your food out there. We've brought friends several times and they've been as happy as we were. Great for hikers and muddy dog walkers, and the pub welcomes dogs with water bowls for them.

The food and service were appalling, and it spoiled Christmas for us. We weren't allowed an Irish coffee, and the terrine was dreadful, like a school dinner. I hate leaving a bad review, especially in our first year without our mother, but Christmas Day here was awful.

My wife and I had a wonderful meal at The New Inn last night. The waitress was handling the bar and taking orders on her own in a very busy place, yet stayed cheerful and attentive under all that pressure. Please pass on our kind regards. What a star.
