We spent two nights here with family for our wedding anniversary. It's a great location and an impressive property, but the poor cleaning became obvious quickly, and the oven was filthy. The heating wasn't working in one bedroom, which was very cold. We reported this straight away because we'd planned to cook that evening, and sent photos to the owner. He was shocked, but couldn't reach the cleaner, so we had to eat out, which wasn't what we wanted. He offered £250 back plus £150 towards food, but only the £250 arrived in our account. The booking had cost more than £2.5k. A cleaner came halfway through our stay, said the property was so bad she'd need at least a full day to put it right, and left. We made the best of a bad situation. If the place had been clean and that bedroom warm, it would have merited five stars. This rating reflects our stay fairly. Paying the extra £150 might also have earned another star.

The building and location are still wonderful and worth seeing, though the guest house has since come under new management, so the service may have changed. My wife and I spent two lovely nights at Newton Hall guest house, a beautiful converted church, run at the time by Bruce and Pam, two wonderful, professional hosts. The rooms and en-suites were spacious and kept to a high standard, as was the whole place. Pam's breakfasts were a delight and got our days off to a brilliant start. The private parking at the rear was handy. We'd love to return and highly recommend it.

Bruce and Pam were welcoming hosts, and after a couple of nights we felt very relaxed. The guesthouse is a converted church in a wonderful spot overlooking Loch Fyne. Rooms are large, clean and comfortable, and breakfast had plenty of choice for different tastes. Recommended.

We had a warm room despite the chilly weather in mid-April, and the area was quiet, just a short walk from the town centre. Inveraray is lovely too. Newton Hall has a great location by Loch Fyne, with beautifully designed rooms in the former church. Breakfast had lots of choice and was excellent, and Bruce and Pam gave us good personal service.

The hosts go the extra mile, and the freshly cooked breakfast was amazing and beautifully presented. The rooms were comfortable, clean and had everything you'd want in a B&B. This place feels like a bargain. If it were on 4 in a bed, I'd give it 10 all round. Forget the overpriced George Hotel, Newton Hall wins hands down.
