This is a beautiful hotel, and I actually like its older bits and pieces because they add to the Scottish feel. Vijay is a hard-working, attentive, friendly man, and I think he’d make a good manager. The food, though, was a letdown: three of our four main courses weren’t cooked properly, the portions were small, and the plates were barely warm. We were hungry and it wasn’t unpleasant, so we ate it all. I wasn’t after a refund, just a sincere acknowledgment and apology when I raised it with staff, but I got the impression I was the only person who’d ever complained, and nobody apologized. The next morning I stopped the receptionist/manager as she walked past, since she hadn’t come over to us, and told her I’d have to be honest in my review after my comments were brushed aside. She offered us £20 back and gave it to us. I also agree with the earlier comment that the music ought to be Scottish. Please take guests’ feedback seriously, even if it’s confusing. All the best, you have such a lovely hotel.

Garry was so nice to talk to, and he told us the history of Bob and Betty. We had comfortable rooms and enjoyed the meals too. The hotel itself was lovely. Thanks for having us!

The room was dirty, with a sock left in the middle of the floor, no hand soap beyond a tiny bar, peeling wallpaper, mould on the windows, and a chair screw sticking through the seat. The loud music could be heard in my room until 10pm, and it made the lounge and restaurant hard to enjoy. This was nothing like the relaxed Scottish countryside hotel suggested by the 'countryside manor house' marketing. I paid £109 for an estate room in December, with Booking.com offering a free upgrade, and it felt wildly overpriced. I’ve had better stays in budget hotels for much less. The place seemed to be run on a tiny budget, with corners cut, rooms neglected, and very cheap items. I saw only one person working during my stay, and one customer waited ten minutes to check in. The breakfast didn’t cater well for allergies such as gluten-free, and all I got was a ripped bag of gluten-free bread. I was told breakfast began at 7am, but couldn’t book a slot until 7:40 because they were busy, despite only two other cars being in the car park; they offered an early continental breakfast instead. The breakfast choices were poor, and the other guest was told they’d need to wait longer to decide because the kitchen wasn’t ready. They have a great whiskey selection, but I waited 15 minutes, rang the bell, and walked all around the hotel looking for someone to serve me before giving up. One positive: there was a bed, and it was warm.

At breakfast, the tea and coffee were already made and kept warm on the buffet instead of being served fresh by staff. The evening meal came on a cold plate, and the vegetables were cold too. The dining room was closed, so we had to eat in the bar. The electric lighting in the Estate room was inadequate and needs upgrading. For the room prices, I was disappointed, and the staff professionalism and service were very poor. We stayed October 17th and 18th, 2025.

We’ve stayed here twice now, both times for our wedding anniversary, and it really suits us. The front room looked out over the gardens, which were beautiful. We had a comfortable, relaxing evening, with welcoming, attentive, friendly staff. The food was beautifully presented and we had no complaints. I’d highly recommend a visit.
