Ms Morgan has a non-refundable policy, which is fair enough, but said she'd refund us if she managed to fill the room after we asked for help cancelling. Before our dates, I checked and found no availability. When I asked about it, she said she'd blocked the dates to take a day off, so there was no refund under the policy. If you face the same situation, check the cancellation and refund terms carefully and don't rely on what she says. It could save you a lot of money.

The shower was the real problem, you had to stay alert or risk getting scalded. Darroch View is in a great spot, almost on the Great Glen Way. The room was clean enough, though after some more comfortable beds earlier in our trip, this one felt small for two. The fridge was noisy, so we switched it off and that was fine. The host was friendly enough, and we were on time, which may have helped. Breakfast was fine, with a generous coffee and scrambled eggs cooked as requested.

We slept well and would certainly come back. After dinner at the local hotel, we enjoyed walking to the waterfalls. The room was clean and comfortable, and we got a lovely welcome with everything explained. Breakfast was great, with good choices, and my husband really enjoyed the cooked option.

After ten nights in B&Bs and hotels while touring the NC500, Darroch View was the best place we stayed. Hayley was friendly, welcoming and full of enthusiasm. Our room was spacious and very clean compared with the others on our trip. Well done, Hayley!

I put the wrong year on the booking and had to cancel, but they wouldn't return my booking fee. I'm a pensioner too. Check the dates carefully when you book.
