Glenmoriston Arms Hotel

We had both breakfast and dinner at the restaurant, and it was excellent. Our room was in the dependance. The one on the far right had a bathroom with a stagnant-water smell and hot water that didn't work properly. The rooms had a bit of a musty smell in general, but the stay was fine overall.

We sat outside on one of the non-smoking benches, but a pair of people on the other bench smoked strong cigars and seemed to enjoy our discomfort. They looked very much like Reform voters, in my opinion. The beer was below average and cost £7, which felt like taking the mick. If you want a decent pint, I'd skip this place and go to the cafe up the road for an early dinner instead.

I rarely leave reviews, but the food here deserves five stars. The cured fish and the chicken and haggis pie were easily the best I've ever had in their respective categories. Highly recommend.

We only came for dinner, so I can't comment on the rooms. The service was impeccable, friendly and professional, and our server suggested a good local whiskey to go with the meal. I played it safe with fish and chips, which were fantastic, some of the best chips I've had. They were fluffy, golden and piping hot, with a huge piece of fish, homemade tartar sauce and even a little spray bottle for the malt vinegar. They also have a nightly pie, and that evening it was haggis and cheddar. My son likes haggis and said it was delicious, with a beautifully flaky crust. It was a short walk from our self-catering apartment on the other side of the Falls. I don't usually expect much from a hotel dining room, but this was a very pleasant surprise.
