Lann Dearg Studios

The waterfalls are spectacular, especially from The Summerhouse right beside them, and you can reach them on a woodland walk. Back at the studio, there’s a lovely big window with bird feeders just outside. The owners are friendly, and the studio itself is wonderful. A special, unforgettable place.

The ground-floor studio worked perfectly for us because its king bed could be split into two twins. Just tell the hosts before you arrive. The kitchen was especially well equipped, and it felt like they’d thought of everything. We also enjoyed the resident pheasant, red squirrel, and all the birds. There’s even a bird guide on the desk to help identify them. Lann Dearg Studios is tucked into beautiful scenery and sits right on the Great Glen Way, which makes it handy for walkers and backpackers. With a car, Ft Augustus and Drumnadrochit are an easy trip for organized tours, including the Coos. The falls are only steps away, and we walked into town for what may have been our best Highland meal, at Glenmoriston Arms. Make a reservation. There’s also a list in the studio of other places to eat and where to find them. We spent four nights in charming Invermoriston. Barry and Em were gracious from the welcome onward, and offered great ideas for places to eat and visit. They were also quick to answer my questions before we arrived. If we’re lucky enough to come back to this part of Scotland, we’d stay at Lann Dearg again without hesitation.

A real little gem and a haven for wildlife. The accommodation was great, and the hosts were superb. The Great Glen path goes right past, with a regular bus for the return trip. There are waterfalls and pub dining nearby too. Highly recommended!
