The Redgarth

We’ve recently moved to the area, and the food has been very good on both of our visits. Still, we won’t be bringing the family back. We ran into friends with their 11-month-old baby, and what should have been a nice catch-up became stressful. Our two young children are well behaved and used to being out, but after eating they went outside to play between the rain showers while it was sunny. They were told to return to the table because it was too wet to play. Nobody spoke to us, their parents, to explain why they couldn’t be in the venue gardens. Our friends weren’t offered a high chair for their daughter either. After we paid, our table was cleared of everything before we’d had a chance to gather our belongings, despite plenty of empty tables. Very disappointing. For a bar and restaurant in a small community with lots of families, it’s strange to advertise as family friendly and offer a kids menu while making children feel unwelcome. I hope the staff think about how this experience made us, and other families who visit, feel.

The room was spacious, the continental breakfast was good, and the staff were really friendly. A great spot for an evening pub meal.

We made a last-minute stop for dinner and got seated without any fuss. We each had a main and a drink. The food was very nice, and the service was good too.

While holidaying in Scotland, I stayed at The Redgarth - Old Meldrum and caught up with friends. Stuart, the owner, and the staff made me feel very welcome. My room was spacious and perfect for a good night’s sleep. A friend suggested the Cullen Skink, and I loved it. I look forward to staying at The Redgarth next time I’m in Scotland.
