Antlers Rest

Jane’s touches made our two night stay special, including a birthday surprise for me and coffee in the room for my cousin, who gets up early. Our family had three rooms, booked through Nordic travel, and Miss Harris Tweed, Jane’s dog, and her brother Louis brought us so much joy. We all bought something Harris Tweed before leaving Scotland to remember Jane and her pup. Jane is a third generation innkeeper and really sets Antler’s Rest apart from all the other places we stayed. Meeting her mom was a pleasure too. An outstanding stay!

The location was good, and the room was clean and nicely presented. The bathroom was spacious but very dated and poorly lit, the toilet didn’t flush properly, and the shower was lukewarm at best. I found the bed very hard and uncomfortable, though my husband thought it was okay. Some of those smaller issues might have been forgivable, but the breakfast really appalled me. I knew it was a continental breakfast because of covid, but I didn’t expect everything to come in packets, with plastic cutlery and paper plates for one croissant each. There was cheese, jam and Nutella, but you’d need to be very imaginative to make a meal out of one croissant. It felt like minimum effort for maximum profit, and certainly wasn’t worth what we paid. I can’t agree with the five star reviews.

Jim and Jane made us feel so welcome at Antlers Rest, and we had a wonderful time. The rooms were very clean and the beds really comfortable. Jim was full of information and witty, which made for a great start to the day. Hope to visit again soon.

The location was reasonable, and the Wi-Fi signal was good. That earns the two stars. The room stayed cold through the day because the heating only came on in the early evening. Breakfast was poor too. We’d agreed to a continental breakfast before arriving, but it seemed pieced together from whatever was available.
