Portree Youth Hostel

The double room beds are only 185 cm from headboard to footboard. Seriously, who thought that was a good idea? It made sleeping comfortably a challenge. The rooms also felt run-down, and the place comes across as a basic hostel. There are probably better options around. It was clean, in a great location, and the staff were friendly. The kitchen is roomy and has a full choice of cooking equipment, and the room was cozy with a comfortable bed. Ms. Sian gave me the sweetest smile, and didn’t charge me anything without asking for a reward in return. What more could you expect from a hostel?

It was freezing in the room because there was no heating, and the window was in such poor condition that cold air came in all night. No one was around at reception to help sort it out. It made for a really unpleasant stay, and I wouldn’t recommend the place until these issues are fixed.

The room was spacious, but there was nowhere comfortable to put down or open my luggage, and no luggage rack. The Wi-Fi in the room didn’t work at all during my stay. It barely worked once in the lounge, where the Yankees were loudly explaining their new “eat, travel, love” philosophy to everyone, as if they’d just discovered travelling.
