Eilean Sionnach Lighthouse Cottage

We spent two of our four nights indoors because of the weather, but there was still lots to do and explore, and the scenery never got old. The cottage was immaculate, relaxing and beautifully decorated. Andrew, the property manager, helped throughout booking and made sure we had what we needed for our four-month-old. Gus was just as helpful and thoughtful about the different ages on board, and put safety first when the weather affected possible extra trips. My partner, our baby and my 81-year-old father all had a wonderful time. We loved Skye and the Lighthouse, and it was quite an adventure with our little one. We'd love to return.

The otters kept up their daily show while we watched, and I may even have seen a mermaid in the mist one morning, though it might have been the second coffee. Rainbows over the sea and herons along the shore were part of the view too. Gus, the boatman, was warm, funny and full of island lore, and the service was impeccable. After more than 30 years as a journalist and visits to plenty of remarkable places, this is one I'll remember for a long time. From stepping onto the island, the year's stress seemed to melt away. Inside, the lighthouse was spotless and cosy, with vintage furniture, soft lamplight and well-thumbed books by the fire. We spent evenings with tea and novels, listening to the wind, and had the occasional competitive chess game. I won, for the record. A few magical days of peace, and a chance to reconnect with what matters.

The setting is hard to beat, and the cottage was wonderful. Staying here felt like a real adventure. We had an incredible time and couldn't recommend it more.

This unique place on a private island felt out of this world. It was such a peaceful, restorative stay, a chance to recharge away from the pressures of our busy, tech-filled lives. I'll definitely be back ❤️
