The Black Swan Hotel

For the price, location and service, I can’t fault the place. The rooms were spotless, and the lads behind the bar were top drawer too. We stayed above the pub for a weekend away and the racing, so it was ideal.

The owner was really friendly, and it was good value for what we paid. We stayed as a family in a double room, with enough space for our baby to crawl around. The room was cleaned daily, and we got lovely biscuits with the tea and coffee each day. It’s right in the city centre, with clean rooms, comfortable beds and an ensuite bathroom with a good electric shower. Breakfast was good too.

It was a comfortable spot for exploring Kelso for a night. The owners gave us a warm welcome and some useful sightseeing tips. The hotel has character and is right in the heart of town, with a comfortable bed and a warm shower. If you’re travelling by bus, it’s especially handy: the bus drops you near the entrance, and the depot is just behind the hotel. We had an enjoyable short visit with all the essentials, and I’d happily recommend it.

I’d only booked Saturday night, 21st Oct 23, but had such a good time in the bar with the staff and locals that I stayed for another two nights. The owner is always around, and his personality sets a friendly tone. It’s easy to spend time chatting and laughing with the locals here. The rooms have the basics you need: tea and coffee, a couple of lovely biscuits, a TV, an en-suite bathroom with a bath and electric shower, and a comfortable double bed. A lovely lady cleans them daily. For this price, what more do you need? I don’t eat hotel breakfasts, though other guests told me it was good value. I’d definitely recommend the Black Swan and would stay again.
