The Old Smithy is the best self-catering place we’ve stayed in, even after many years of booking this kind of accommodation. Gail and Adrian were available if we needed help, while still giving us space, and the welcome basket was a nice extra. The cottage was beautifully furnished and had a comprehensive range of equipment. We also made good use of the information in about six lever-arch files, covering local attractions, places to eat, including dog-friendly options, and activities Gail could book for us. We hope to return.

Gail and Adrian gave us so many nice suggestions for things to see around Kelso. The cottage has thoughtful little touches throughout, including a few for our pup. It’s a lovely holiday place and a great Scottish Borders escape. We’d recommend it and would love to visit again.

We stayed here last August and found the house beautiful, clean, comfortable, and nicely furnished. The hosts were welcoming and had thought of everything to make it feel like home. The garden was a good size for our young dog, but it’s shared with the owners next door. They said he could run around, but we still had to watch him constantly so he wouldn’t wander into their house. We’d have liked the advert to make the shared garden clearer, since we prefer somewhere more private. We’d definitely stay again if we weren’t bringing the dog.

The cottage was spotless, had everything we needed, and was just as described, if not better. Gail was a perfect host, communicated well, and always had good recommendations. The location is handy for exploring Southern Scotland. I highly recommend Old Smithy Cottage for a family getaway.

The kids loved dipping their feet in the river, reached through the garden gate, and we also enjoyed the garden’s little fairy doors. Gail and Adrian were friendly and close by, just across the drive, and made sure we had what we needed. The cottage itself was gorgeous and finished to a very high standard. There was a welcome basket, plus lavender and chocolates on the pillows, which gave it a five star hotel feel. A relaxing, lovely bit of luxury. I’d thoroughly recommend staying here.
