The bathroom tiles had mold, and the fridge was so loud it kept me awake most of the night. There was a discretionary service charge added to my meals without anyone asking first. On arrival, I was told the car park was full and I’d have to use the Sainsbury’s, but a few minutes later I saw someone drive into the hotel car park. The staff were polite enough and service was generally good. The add-on advert says Copthorne has a gym, but it’s just three outdated resistance machines and two bits of cardio equipment. It stank in there too. I nearly told reception I’d found the room with the machines, but not a gym. They should remove “gym / fitness suite” from the advert. What I found was embarrassing. I wouldn’t stay here again.

The staff were all very friendly, polite and extremely helpful, and the breakfast is the best in Plymouth! The Copthorne Hotel Plymouth is perfectly located for visiting the city. The rooms are excellent in both standard and value for money.

Breakfast was amazing, hot and plentiful, and the hostess was so hospitable. The rest of the stay was a letdown, though. I’ve stayed at Premier Inn plenty and was looking forward to a four star hotel. They offered an upgrade a few days ahead and I accepted, but maybe my expectations were too high: the room seemed clean, but it was dated and tired. The heating and hot water system was incredibly noisy, starting up every half hour like a plane taking off. We barely slept. The receptionist was pleasant but didn’t tell us about breakfast or WiFi, so we had to go back and ask. There was only one dressing gown in the room. When I mentioned it, she said she was busy and would bring another later, but it never arrived. She also forgot our drinks voucher, so we had another trip to reception to collect it. The reception team seemed oblivious to their jobs and more interested in chatting. At checkout my partner raised these problems and got a shrug and an apology. I’d probably go back to Premier Inn instead. Very disappointed :(

We’ve stayed at this Copthorne city hotel in Plymouth several times and have always found it clean to a high standard, with polite, helpful staff. The food is good and the location is perfect for a stop in Plymouth. Secure parking is a bonus. My husband and I are both disabled, and although there are some stairs from the parking area, the staff always check that we can manage and ask if we need help. I’d fully recommend this lovely hotel.

The room was clean, tidy and a nice size, and friendly staff made check-in quick and easy. It’s only a few minutes on foot from the town centre. Parking is a bit cramped, with limited spaces, and the bed was small, more like a small double. The pillows were quite hard. It’s good value for money overall, and we’d certainly consider staying again.
