The grounds are lovely, well kept and varied, and the location on the edge of the Cotswolds is good. There’s a lovely swimming pool, though resident groups have time-limited access and all sessions are free. There’s also a tennis court, but you need to bring your own equipment. The kitchens are well equipped and there’s plenty of shared space inside and out. That said, my family had a mixed stay at Upper Court. It was sold as luxury accommodation, but our experience fell well short. The many extra charges for things I’d expect to be standard at this price, including the hot tub, sauna, firepit, BBQ and additional guests, would quickly push an already expensive stay over the top. Some rooms were reasonable, but most of ours were small, cramped and poorly ventilated. The beds were among the most uncomfortable I’ve ever slept in. The tiniest bathroom was especially disappointing. Most of my family felt severely claustrophobic in its coffin-like shower cubicle, and there was no bath. The water pressure was decent, at least, if you could stand the walls seeming to close in. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The rooms were clean and nicely presented, and both check-in and checkout were easy. A couple of mattresses could’ve been more comfortable, but everything else was spot on. I booked the Courtyard Cottages at Upper Court for my 30th birthday weekend, with 25 of us staying. Everyone was blown away by the house and all it offered. Bryony was fantastic from the booking through to the run-up to the weekend. She put a lot of effort into finding just the right caterer for what I had in mind. On Saturday night, Lisa Tiesteel cooked us a brilliant Mediterranean-style dinner for sharing with the family. I’d highly recommend her for an event if you want beautifully put-together dishes using fresh, high-quality ingredients. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Upper Court for a special group getaway.

There was plenty to do nearby, and the caterers recommended to us turned out to be ideal. We booked the whole site for 41 people for a family celebration, and the experience was wonderful. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly before we booked, and they looked after us so well throughout. The facilities covered everyone’s interests, from 7 weeks to 72 years. Nothing was too much trouble.

We had an amazing reunion with the whole family and had the entire place to ourselves. The location, property and outdoor space were fabulous. The family and staff running the property were so helpful and accommodating. I’d definitely recommend staying there.
