We were a small family group, two adults, a young child and a dog, and spent two nights in the self contained bungalow. The setting is lovely, with a quaint cottage feel, scenic views, walks nearby and Windermere close at hand. It’s dog friendly, and the WiFi worked well. The firewood was a nice, unexpected extra. For £170 a night, though, it didn’t feel like good value for us. The place was much busier than its remote location suggested, with people and cars around and little sense of privacy. Facilities were very basic and old, including what seemed like owner cast offs such as towels, plates and kitchen appliances. There wasn’t even hand soap or washing up liquid, and the bin instructions had worn off. We also had no hot water on the second night. We’ve stayed in close to 20 places in the Lakes, and wouldn’t choose this one again.

The countryside views right outside are lovely, and there are plenty of walks and public footpaths around. It’s a great spot for a private country stay.

The house needs a lot of updating. Both the indoor and outdoor decor are very tired, and we ran into blocked drains, broken toilet seats and loose fittings. The second oven didn’t work, and a sign on the dining room fire said not to use it. We paid the full price, did we? The location is lovely and peaceful, but it simply wasn’t good value, so I’m afraid we wouldn’t return.

It was a great holiday in a lovely big house, with heating and showers that worked. The views from every window are stunning. Some of the household equipment is getting worn, though. Neither of the two DVD players worked, so our planned film night was a flop.

There were 13 of us, and it was great to have a lounge and TV room with enough space for everyone, including a sofa or armchair each. The house and its location were excellent. A few of us needed to work during the week, and the internet was fast and reliable. They had a TP-Link so the signal reached every room.
