We stopped at the Shakespeare for a quick lunch while spending an afternoon in Kendal. The chicken club sandwiches were much better and bigger than we’d expected, and came with fries and coleslaw, so they were good value. Service was friendly, quick and efficient. One of the best parts of our weekend break.

Vicky, the lovely manager, gave us wonderful customer service. I especially liked that she made sure our dog got a drink and a treat too. We’ll definitely be back.

The food at The Shakespeare was all homemade, full of flavour and well priced. I had the beef burger pie, yes, burger pie, with beef dripping cooked chips, and it was some of the tastiest comfort food I’ve had in ages. The ale was poured perfectly and went down a treat. The pub looked great, was clean and had a welcoming feel. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, which made the visit even better. Well worth a visit in Kendal. We’ll be back!

The staff were lovely and the pub itself was nice, but the room felt a bit damp. The breakfast was terrible, just a continental breakfast in a bag. The website doesn’t actually say it’s continental, and I wouldn’t have booked if I’d known it would be delivered to the room. Eating Weetabix on the end of your bed feels more like a hostel. There was nowhere proper to sit.

At last, I’ve found a real pub in a lovely town. The beer was excellent, the service second to none, and the staff gave us such a warm welcome. Just perfect.
