The team were the best part of our stay at Stonecross Hotel in Kendal. They were welcoming, helpful and cheerful from check-in onwards, and made everything easy. The room was comfortable enough, though the double bed was officially the smallest we've ever slept in. There seemed to be mould around the window frame, which could do with repainting, and the bathroom had only hand soap, with no shampoo, conditioner or shower gel. On each floor, the lift area looked unfinished, with tape still showing at the wall edges. Outside, the signage looked like it needed cleaning and some grounds were untidy and overgrown. The breakfast itself was good, but the room felt quiet and lacked atmosphere, and the selection was limited, especially for gluten-free guests. EV charging is available on site, which was good to see, though we found the cost high compared with other hotels we've visited. The staff made the stay pleasant, and better upkeep, presentation and guest amenities would make a real difference.

Helen looked after us throughout our four-day stay, and her service was fantastic. The hotel is in a beautiful spot, just minutes from Town, with superb rooms and a recently refurbished pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. Everything was spotlessly clean. Breakfast was cooked fresh and absolutely lovely, with cereals and yogurts as well. Pure quality, and a highly recommended hotel.

We should have read the information more carefully, as it did say the pool and spa were closed for renovations. Still, the hotel felt dismal and completely without atmosphere. On a Friday night the weekend before Christmas, it was empty. We cancelled dinner there and ate in town instead. Maybe it's too far out to attract custom. The stairwell and carpet looked like a building site, covered in thick dust and debris. You could write your name in the banister dust, and the overpowering smell of industrial glue or fiberglass was enough to get you high. Breakfast felt just as cheerless, with only us two there. The menu listed breakfast for non-guests at £15.50, but I'd go elsewhere for that price. The fruit salad was turning brown and seemed a day old, though the photo made it look better than it was. There were just a couple of slices of bread for self-service toast until we asked, and the girl put more out. The cooked breakfast was nice, but my husband ordered only bacon and got two rashers on a large plate, so he had to ask for more. It was very overpriced for what we got, and disappointing. I wouldn't recommend it or stay again.

I felt ripped off. I booked for the spa, but it was closed for refurbishment, and they should say so on their website. Then they had the cheek to ask if I wanted to pay extra for breakfast. Have a 😂. I should get a full refund! The shower head sprayed water all over the bathroom. They should close the whole place for refurbishment 😂!

We stayed a couple of nights with friends for this year's Kendal Whisky Festival. It's a really nice hotel with friendly staff, good rooms, an excellent breakfast and a pleasant bar and lounge. Getting into Kendal is easy, either a 20-30 minute walk or 5-10 minutes by taxi. Can recommend!
