The room was clean and the bed was comfortable, but we won’t be coming back. We had to find somewhere urgently, and when we knocked, we were met with a lot of suspicion and hostility. After agreeing to stay two nights, we paid upfront, only then to hear that breakfast wasn’t included and we’d need to walk ten minutes to the Harvester. They left us milk the first night, but the tray wasn’t topped up, the cups weren’t washed, and we didn’t get any more milk. When we left, a smoke alarm was sounding and clearly needed a new battery, but nobody came to check it. We got the impression nobody was home at all. That’s why it’s two stars, despite the clean room and comfortable bed.

The room itself had plenty going for it: lots of storage, a dresser, modern decor, a flat-screen TV, a spacious bathroom with both a bath and shower, and a cabinet for toiletries. It was warm, with plugs by the bed and tea-making stuff too. There’s no breakfast, but the Harvester is right across the road and does an all-you-can-eat breakfast; Sainsbury’s cafe is less than a mile away, with other shops and things to see nearby. We were looking for affordable accommodation that wasn’t a hostel, and after seeing the bad TripAdvisor reviews and scruffy photos online, I was dreading arriving. The place wasn’t like that at all. The owner was really nice and helped us out when my colleagues and I were tired and irritable. She gave us directions and was available when we needed her without hovering around. Big thumbs up from me.

My sister and I stayed here for a night two or three years ago. We both got bitten by bedbugs, and the manager did nothing about it. Even the mirror in our room felt like it had bad energy. It was disgusting. Don’t stay here.

The owner has young tenants who, I reckon, live in the same building. They’re extremely loud around midnight and use drugs inside, including marijuana, and drink alcohol, possibly other things too. Seriously, stay away from this place. It’s a nightmare.

The owner is really helpful, and we’ve had a great stay here. It’s a great place to stay, and we’re looking forward to coming again whenever we get the chance.
