The evening meal was hot, tasty, and generous, though I’d have liked more time to finish my starter before the main arrived. Breakfast was poor, with the coffee about the only thing I enjoyed. The location worked brilliantly for me, and the hotel and my room were clean. The shower could use some mould cleaner, though, and the bed sits low, which might bother some people. I was on the railway side and had worried after reading earlier comments, but the last train was around 11 pm and the first about 6 am. I’ve lived by railway lines for years, so it seemed normal to me, even with the window cracked open for air. The woman at reception could have shown better manners instead of walking off. The man who checked me in, though, was more than polite and a credit to the hospitality industry.

We ended up staying here for a couple of months because of unexpected problems at home. The staff were helpful and friendly from the start, and they did a lot to make our stay pleasant. We’re very grateful for how they looked after us and would recommend the hotel to anyone spending time in the area. Our room was spacious, modern, and secure. Whenever we asked for housekeeping, it was cleaned and kept in very good condition. The hotel is in a peaceful location, and the music was played quietly. Breakfast and dinner were both excellent. They also made cosmetic improvements to the reception and restaurant during our stay without any fuss or inconvenience to guests.

A handy place to stop when you're on the road and need a short break. The beds were really comfortable, and both the room and the big bathroom were clean and smelled nice. Staff were polite and very helpful. The train station is close by, but I didn't hear any noise from it or notice any bad smells. The location is fabulous. There was plenty to choose from at the breakfast buffet, including a good English breakfast, lots of breads, French pastries, melon and other fruit, and a big selection of Twinings tea, which I loved as a tea drinker. There weren't any vegetables. The eggs had a slightly strange smell, which put me off, and the orange juice was bitter and salty.

For £76, it was an average hotel and still worth the price. The room had everything I needed, including shower gel, shampoo, tea, coffee, and a hairdryer. The shower was nice and big, and I slept well on the slightly firm bed. There was no noise disturbance, though the air con and heater were loud. The pub nearby serves pub food and paninis. The pizza and lasagna were tasty, but the £14 lasagne felt pricey for its size. The fries weren't great, and the sticky toffee pudding was average and not worth £7.50. Breakfast wasn't for me. The eggs tasted funny, the bacon and sausage were okay, and the fruit salad tasted like vinegar. I also wasn't happy about the extra £30 for parking and bringing a pet. I know the parking is private, but I don't think hotels should charge guests to park when they're staying there.

The check-in was excellent, and everyone on staff was super friendly. The rooms are clean and recently refitted, although there are no chairs in them. We got a fantastic room deal, probably because refurbishment work was underway, and there were clear notices about it in the lifts. It should be a great hotel once the refit is finished. Maps said the place was permanently closed, so I called ahead. That was a mistake, and the guy on the phone was very friendly. If you're arriving at night, the turn onto station rd is easy to miss, and I wasn't sure at first that I'd found the right place. The hotel is at the end of the road.
