Travelodge Bristol Central

The location is great, and the parking was a plus. The USB sockets beside the bed were useful too. But this Bristol Travelodge felt very basic compared with others I’ve stayed at around the UK, and not like especially good value. The room was tiny, with nowhere to put even a small suitcase. The shower was forgettable and the whole place felt a bit worn. It did the job, but I wouldn’t rush back.

The location was good, the room was standard Travelodge size and style, and the staff were friendly. At breakfast, I liked that they had peanut butter, Nutella and pancakes. The shower curtain sat about two inches above the tray, so the floor got very wet. The tray itself was slippery, and although there’s a warning label, take extra care with children and older people. The breakfast area was quite small and the food was average. There wasn’t anyone clearing tables quickly, though perhaps they were short-staffed on the day I visited. There was no sign saying to pay at the till and pick up cutlery there, so I got my food, sat down, and had none. There’s no hairdryer in the room or note about where to get one. I had to ask at reception, where they were all kept.

It’s easy enough to walk to, and handy for the harbour, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here. The room wasn’t clean, and it smelled so musty that I had to keep the window open. There was mould around the shower, with tiles and panels peeling off the bathroom walls. Anyone could get into the building and take the lift up to the rooms, so security felt lacking. Breakfast was sparse and not worth what it cost.

The parking beneath the building is very handy and reasonably priced at £14 for 24 hours as a guest. I’d stay here again. It’s a great base for visiting Bristol, with the waterfront and bars a short walk away, and the rooms were clean. The staff were okay, but the bar area needs an uplift. It’s hit and miss, seems badly run, and the prices are extortionate.
