The Rodney hotel felt like a nice refuge from the world, more like staying in a house than in one of those hotels with long corridors and hundreds of rooms. I stayed for no particular reason and had a great time. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, and the minibar was a welcome extra at reasonable prices. I thought there might be a catch when they offered a rate lower than the already cheap one on booking.com, but there wasn't. It has an old-school feel that I liked. On a stormy night, watching a horror film there would hit different, and having a drink with a book at the bar would probably mogg. The two women working reception and the bar at 3pm on Sunday had an upper-class, private-school, almost 20th-century vibe that suited the place, and I think they represent it well. The man in a black suit on Monday morning was good too. He feels like the main character, and I reckon he'll run his own business one day.

The breakfast is great, whether cooked or continental, and the dining room staff are always friendly and give great service. Reception are super helpful, and the rooms have been clean and well looked after each time I've stayed for work. A heads-up, the top-floor rooms mean a few stairs. Parking is limited, though I've never had a problem when arriving. The local area is pleasant to walk around. I'd recommend it.

My room was on the top floor, quiet and away from street and restaurant noise. It was small but bright and cosy, with a minibar, TV, kettle and French coffee press. The provided Connoisseur Coffee (by Martin Carwadine & Co) was delicious, and the white sheets and towels were crisp and clean. Reception staff couldn't have been friendlier, and I felt right at home. I'll be back in six weeks. The hotel is a charming little boutique place in a perfect spot in Clifton village, within walking distance of Clifton Suspension Bridge and the shops, bars and restaurants. There's lovely art all along the gorgeous staircase, and it's for sale too.

We've stayed here a few times while visiting family. The bed is comfortable, the atmosphere is nice and the location is great. I also appreciated the little touches in the room, like ground coffee with a cafetière and fresh fruit.

The room was spacious and comfortable, with a lovely garden view. It was next to the kitchen and could have been noisy, but by bedtime it was completely quiet and didn't affect our stay. The full English breakfast was really good, with delicious local produce, and there was a good variety of other options. The dining room itself is lovely too. We stayed at the characterful Rodney Hotel in Clifton Village as a birthday treat for my husband. Before we arrived, a receptionist called to ask whether we had any other requirements, which surprised and impressed me. Everyone we met was friendly and welcoming, and nothing seemed too much trouble. We don't stay in hotels often, so it was a rare treat, and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. We'd happily recommend this little gem to Bristolians and visitors alike. Many thanks to all the staff for making us feel so welcome.
