Globe Hotel

We didn’t use the rooms, just stopped for breakfast, and it was a good one. A few days later we were flying from Birmingham and checked the airport’s ’Spoons breakfast prices. The freedom breakfast at Globe was £3.90, while at the airport it was almost £12. Spoons, as usual, was good value with good service.

WOULDNT RECOMMEND If I could give no stars, I would. The bar staff were incredibly rude, and a couple of drinks took an hour. When I asked how long they’d be, nobody knew, and the guy just walked off. The manager working behind the bar was horrible. The waitresses, though, were lovely.

We come here most Saturdays, but today we’ve waited over an hour for food and are still waiting. A staff member just spoke to me appallingly. There are better ways to handle being busy. Service has really gone downhill over the last year or so. Shame.

Parking was simple, just across the road at Tuesday Market Place, and cost £3 for the whole night. There’s a separate hotel entrance from the pub, and check-in was quick. The receptionist was friendly and welcoming. I expected noise, a tired room and the kind of problems people often mention about Wetherspoons, so I was sceptical about staying at the Globe Hotel. Instead, the room was very clean, with no stains, and excellent value for what I paid. The firm mattress suited me, the pillows were supportive, and I slept really well. The shower over the bath had strong pressure and got very hot. There’s no air conditioning, but the circular bladeless Dyson fan kept the room comfortable. The TV was a decent size, though channel choice was limited and some channels didn’t seem to work. That wasn’t a deal-breaker for me. Complimentary internet was excellent, around 200Mb download and 50-60Mb upload, better than at many hotels and easily enough for work. I also appreciated the Galaxy hot chocolate sachets, Walkers biscuits and two free bottles of water alongside the usual tea and coffee. Budget hotels around King’s Lynn were significantly more expensive at the time and arguably had poorer facilities, so the Globe will be my regular choice when I’m in KL each month. Pleasantly surprised, and happy to recommend it.
