Macdonald Windsor

Dean was a real highlight, helping us with the car and luggage with such friendliness and professionalism. Our suite was spacious, beautifully presented and comfortable, and the location puts you right in central Windsor. We also had a fun view of the famous Wonky House from our room. At night, we heard quite a bit of movement overhead, possibly from a staircase, and it woke us several times. Some extra soundproofing there would help. Even with that, we had a very enjoyable stay and would happily return to Windsor.

The communication before our last-minute booking was excellent. They answered my questions very quickly, which I appreciated. Most of the staff were great, though one female receptionist was a bit snippy. The hotel is right opposite the castle, making it a handy choice for an event there. The rooms are smart and have most of the little luxuries you’d expect at this end of the market. The large wet-room shower had nowhere to escape the pressure, so a disposable shower cap would have helped. Parking beneath the hotel can be booked, but it costs a lot extra. I paid for it, though with better planning I might have found a cheaper spot elsewhere.

We enjoyed our night in Windsor, and the car park was expensive but very well managed. The location is great. Room 227 was quite dark, and although the bathroom was clean, it looked shabby. The corridor light took a while to come on at night. My husband has very poor eyesight, and luckily I carry a torch for situations like that. The receptionist on arrival seemed bored and uninterested, but the young woman in the morning was lovely, though it was her last day. I’m sharing this to help the hotel improve, not to put anyone off. Windsor is beautiful and well worth visiting.

The restaurant was good, with a lovely server, and the hotel felt clean and welcoming. We had to change rooms twice because the first was icy cold and the second was just as bad. The room we eventually got on another floor had working heating. The reception was comfortable, but the scent there was overpowering. They advertise parking on site, but it costs £40, isn’t valet parking, and even a small car has trouble getting in. There’s nowhere to stop outside while you go into reception to ask about parking, so we had to park some distance away and pay £2.50 for an hour. The central location was good.
