Kirkstone Lodge

We spent a week at Kirkstone Lodge in June with our family of four and one dog. The lodge was modern, clean and nicely presented, with everything we needed. The location is excellent for Loch Insh Watersports centre, outdoor activities around Aviemore, and the forest right at the doorstep. We also had a wasp nest issue, which the lovely caretaker dealt with promptly. If you want a break from the Munros, I highly recommend hiking into Glen Feshie.

Kirkstone had everything we needed, plus plenty more, and we hope to return or try one of the other lovely looking properties. We booked it for an end of year work review and decided to treat ourselves. The real log fire and hot tub were two must-haves for us, and both were a real pleasure, along with the sauna. We also appreciated the well-equipped kitchen, power showers, comfy beds with blackout blinds, big TV and DVD, and being close to great walks. There was wifi and plenty of off-road parking too. Huge thanks for the hot tub and fire. We'd wholeheartedly recommend it.

The hot tub and sauna were the icing on the cake, and they even provide towels for the tub. The lodge is superbly equipped and the furnishings feel luxurious, from the quality crockery and wine glasses to the thick soft towels and gorgeous toiletries. It felt like a five-star hotel, and we loved the surround sound TV, which made it feel like the movies. The location is fabulous, with spectacular views, forest trails at the doorstep and Aviemore only 15 minutes away. The owners were a delight to book with. We’ll definitely return, and stay longer next time.

We had such a wonderful week that we could easily have stayed another without running out of things to do nearby, including places just a short drive away. The house was exactly what we wanted and we wouldn't change a thing. Even though it sleeps eight, it didn't feel too big for just my husband, me and our two dogs. I spent days searching online for the right place and wasn't disappointed. We'll absolutely be back.
