Room 2 had a full-size bed, a bunk bed and a desk, plus an en-suite with a shower, toilet and sink. The views over the grounds and mature conifers were lovely. There's a shared tea and coffee station in the hall. I was the only guest, so the house felt too quiet. Parking out front was okay, with space for a few cars, though it takes careful manoeuvring because of the sharp drop nearby. The Ossian is a historic building with some remodeling and updates to keep it livable. It has the usual smells, cracks and leaks you'd expect in an old building. The heating was off during my summer stay, when I didn't need it, but it could have been switched on manually if needed. For peak season and the location, the room fit its price, and budget accommodation is hard to find in the area. I liked being able to check in and out by myself. I'd stay again for a short stop on a trip through the Highlands, but not as a destination stay.

We had room 4 for two nights with our four kids. It had one double and two bunk beds, and we all fit in the one room. The beds were pretty good, and the TV was okay, though we couldn't find the remote, so we ended up watching DVDs. There's a huge collection in the hall for everyone to use. The room was clean, but not quite hotel-level clean. In October the bathroom was cold, so we ended up using it a bit like a fridge for milk and yogurts. In colder months the supplied heater warms the room easily and runs very quietly. We booked last minute, and I guess you get what you pay for, but don't expect too much. There's no reception, breakfast or dinner. We liked the self check-in and checkout. We enjoyed our stay, but next time we'd use it just as a place to sleep. A lot of work is being done, and I think the place may offer much more over time.

They cancelled a booking I'd made months earlier by text, saying the room had been damaged beyond repair and I couldn't stay. Fortunately, I managed to find somewhere else, even though there was a nearby wedding with around 200 guests staying in the area. The staff were polite and friendly when I called to ask what had happened, but I had to prompt them to see if they could find alternative accommodation. I believe they should have contacted me with a possible solution instead of sending a text and shrugging their shoulders. Bad things happen and rooms get damaged, but I wasn't happy with how the problem was handled. It felt less than professional.

The room was quite dirty, with a broken glass and holes in the walls. The heaters had no electric power, and when we arrived nobody was there to welcome us. It was self check-in and checkout, and there was no one else in the house. Definitely not worth the price.

It's cold and very dirty, including the shower, carpet and sheets. The heaters and hot water only work sometimes. There's no way to eat without driving somewhere. This place isn't suitable for hosting anyone, especially kids.
