Nightel

The rooms were simple and decent, and there was a large recreational room that was nice to spend time in. Everyone was welcoming, my needs were met, and I really appreciated that the food suited my requirements. The main thing I’d change is the shower, which seems dated, and the PVC has yellowed. Even so, I was very satisfied and would recommend staying here.

For £220 a week, it was okay, and I’ve no bad feelings about the place, but I wouldn’t come back. I stayed for 3 weeks while working nearby. The room had a nice-sized TV, a comfy bed and an en suite shower, and having a washer and dryer was useful. Allan at reception was very helpful. Cleaning was the problem. The kitchen facilities, including the microwave, were always unclean, and my room was cleaned just once in 3 weeks. I could only get fresh towels if I happened to see a cleaner in the corridor on my day off, once a week. The wi-fi also wasn’t good enough to give my firestick a decent signal, so I had to use my phone’s hotspot.

We used it for one night on the way through, and it worked well for that. The room was adequate, and the staff at both Nightel reception and Hilton reception were very nice and helpful. I wouldn’t want to stay longer than a night, though. We were told there are no lifts.

The room was clean and decent. My only real problem was figuring out where to park when I arrived at 11.15pm in the dark. The signs were poor and confusing: a small sign sent me right towards the Hampton, while the lane on the left led in front of Nightel. I took the obvious left turn and parked in the nearly empty forecourt car park at Nightel. A night staff member came out, kindly explained I shouldn’t park there, and directed me to the Hampton car park. They were helpful, but getting back into the car and moving it to a hotel about a hundred yards away was the last thing I needed. Luckily it wasn’t raining or stormy. Surely Nightel could have around 50 parking spaces of its own.
