Dinner is so generous and full of flavour that I was almost sorry to reach the end of it. On our second night I had to ask for a half portion of the cheese board. Breakfast was just as good: the buffet was excellent, and the cooked option I wanted was free of grease and fat, maybe one of the best breakfasts I’ve had. The woods outside Lampeter make this a wonderfully tucked-away place, and you feel relaxed as soon as you arrive. Our room has been spotless and well kept on every visit, and the bathroom is sparkling after each service. We spent an hour in the lounge before dinner in total peace, just quiet, laid-back comfort. It’s always our first choice for a weekend away from the hurly-burly. The staff are professional and consistently polite and friendly. Thanks so much. We’ll definitely be back. We’d stay again. The rooms were a good size, clean, and clearly cared for, and the staff were welcoming. Breakfast was fantastic, especially the full cooked Welsh breakfast, and the WiFi was fast the whole time. There are excellent country walks right outside, and they’re very dog friendly. A couple of things took the shine off. We ate there on Sunday after arriving, but the reduced menu was mostly sandwiches with just two mains, a burger or fish, which was disappointing. Also, the website offer waiving the £15-per-night dog charge for stays over three nights apparently didn’t apply because we booked through booking.com. We had to pay quite a bit at checkout, leaving a sour note.

The food was the one letdown for us. For what dinner cost, it could have been better, and the Welsh Breakfast left us wanting a bit more. Still, the rooms were spacious, the beds really comfortable, and every staff member was friendly and helpful. It’s a lovely place, with a beautiful drive up and a great atmosphere, and I’d still recommend it.

The staff were lovely, attentive and polite, and clearly trained to a high standard, which matters in hospitality. Food was exquisite, with plenty of breakfast and a good range of choices, all clean and nicely presented. We were there for a wedding, and that meal was excellent too. The grounds are beautiful and the setting idyllic. Rooms are spacious, though ours was freezing in winter. It’s a 300-year-old building with old radiators, so I suppose that’s to be expected. We asked for a heater and were given an oil panel radiator; by morning the room was just comfortable. Check-in after 3 feels a bit late, and checkout is at 11. I’d stay again, but would request a heater in advance.

Dal’s friendly service was outstanding and had us starting the day with a smile. Breakfast was excellent too. It’s a charming old manor hotel with a warm feel, a lovely bar, restaurant and lounge, and a green view from our room. Well placed for exploring the nearby seaside villages, and a good pick if you want a traditional hotel stay. The shower pressure was very poor, and the rooms could use some updating.
