Brisbane House Hotel

At breakfast the tea cups on our table were dirty, there weren't enough people behind the bar, and last orders were followed almost straight away by the bar closing and drinks being cleared. Several people had drunk quite a lot that day and evening but still struggled to get drunk. I know that's a bold thing to say, but with how much I drank, I expected to be very drunk and wasn't, so it left me wondering if the alcohol had been watered down. The next wedding guests were already arriving while we were having breakfast, which made the whole thing feel rushed and a bit like a conveyor belt. I attended a wedding here and the room was nice, but in my opinion it was completely overpriced. I've stayed in better places for less many times. The service was pretty poor.

The view at the main entrance is great, and the setting is beautiful. I was here for a wedding, and while we waited for a taxi, Dionne from the night shift made us feel so welcome. She brought us blankets and invited us inside to charge our phones and get out of the cold. She deserves six stars for looking after us like that.

I'm absolutely furious. At 9 pm last night I got an email saying the hotel would close Monday through Wednesday until next year, so my three-night November booking was cancelled. There was no apology or empathy at all. Are they having financial trouble? I think so. It wouldn't surprise me, given our previous stay: the room was dirty, and the bin had empty wine bottles and snack wrappers in it. At over £200 a night, standards have definitely slipped since the new owners took over.

We stayed at Brisbane House Hotel in North Ayrshire Largs from 30 August to 1 September, and the sunrise over the beach each morning was breathtaking. Our room looked straight out across the sand, where we could watch the waves roll in. The breakfast was great, and the cappuccinos and lattes were amazing. Everyone we dealt with, from check-in and the bar to breakfast and check-out, was friendly, helpful and welcoming. We arrived half an hour before the 45th Vikings Festival and parade began, and they let us park hours before check-in. My husband says this would be his number one choice for our daughter's wedding because the wedding venue is beautiful. There are miles of beach walking trails, and the ferry to Isle of Millport is just down the street. We'd recommend visiting during your stay. Definitely book your reservation for the Park hotel.
