The toiletries were the one frustrating part. We got a single small 3-in-1 soap bar to share between two people, plus a large body wash bottle fixed to the wall. The soap really dried out my hair. The front desk said this was to cut down on plastic for environmental reasons, but with a large plastic bottle still provided, it felt more like cost saving. At this price, sharing one little bar and having no proper shampoo or conditioner while being told it was for sustainability was irksome. The rest of the stay was excellent. Staff were wonderful, the buildings are beautifully decorated and designed, and everything from booking to getting around was easy and efficient. It felt like a lot of effort had gone into making the stay seamless. We absolutely loved the food, and the Baa bar was excellent. The bartender gave great recommendations. A cooking class was the highlight of our stay. With a small toiletries adjustment, the experience would have been close to perfect.

Thyme feels like a little village within a village, spread across historic buildings, with a strong sense of place. My mom and I spent four midweek nights there in January 2026, and it was deeply restorative and memorable. It's about 1.5 hours from Heathrow, an easy countryside addition to a London itinerary. Room styles vary quite a bit, from more modern to cozy cottage, so pay attention to the descriptions when booking. We arrived before check-in and our room wasn't ready, which was understandable. We had a lovely lunch at the Baa Bar while waiting, then about an hour later were delighted to be upgraded to English Rose, one of the highest room categories in the Exquisite Room category. It was breathtaking, with a large soaking tub, grand chandelier, fireplace, and beautifully layered furnishings. It felt more like a private English country home than a hotel. The owner, Caryn Hibbert, designs all the wallpaper and fabrics herself. She and her daughter also created the on-site brand Bertioli, and the boutique is well worth a visit for anyone who likes design and unique finds. There are thoughtful touches all over the property. Shared pantries in several buildings had fresh fruit, milk for coffee, rosemary-infused water, and other small things that made the stay feel generous and homey. Breakfast at Ox Barn is included and was consistently excellent. The à la carte menu and daily garden juice were highlights. Dining across the property clearly follows a farm-to-table ethos and a strong focus on sustainability. Thyme has several buildings for rooms, restaurants, the spa, and the original cookery school it was founded on. Our midweek January stay was extremely quiet, which suited us since we wanted to rest and recharge. It would feel very different in the warmer months, when the gardens are in full bloom. Even in winter, the gardens were pristine, and I can only imagine how spectacular the grounds are in spring and summer. Bunny Guiness designed the gardens. Gravel paths and steps between many buildings may make the property difficult for guests with mobility challenges. Children are allowed in some areas, but this isn't a family-forward place. Young children are only allowed in Ox Barn at lunch, and the hotel deliberately keeps an adult, peaceful atmosphere. We absolutely loved our stay and can't wait to return. Thyme is a lovely choice for a slow, restorative English countryside break with design, sustainability, and food at its heart.

We've stayed three times and also dined here as visitors on other occasions, and we'll definitely be back. Most recently, they handled a group of 10 with very complex and varied dietary needs without any problem. The menu options and staff's knowledge made it easy. I love the homegrown produce and the traceability of the meat. The spa is small but perfectly formed, with a varied range of treatments, all with a holistic focus. The breath work was amazing too. The setting is beautiful, and the interiors feel wonderfully warm and relaxing. Everything is so considered, from the room design and amenities to the food and service. The staff are outstanding and clearly reflect the owner's ethos. Couldn't recommend it highly enough.

We stopped in for an afternoon drink on a Tuesday in mid October, so it was quiet, but the staff were attentive and helpful. The sommelier recommended some fantastic English wines. The wedding barn and olive garden are out of this world, and the Baa Bar is just the cutest. Beautiful hotel, restaurant, and event space!

We had a wonderful three-night winter stay at Thyme Hotel in Pear Tree Cottage. The accommodation was beautiful, and the atmosphere was wonderful throughout. Food at both the Oxbarn restaurant and the swan pub was delicious. Service was warm and attentive, nothing was too much trouble. The cooking lesson with executive Chef Charlie was fantastic. Even in winter, the gardens designed by Bunny Guiness were just magical. Thank you for a memorable visit. Teresa Townsend
