The room was clean and had everything I needed, including tea, coffee and a remote. I arrived at 11:30 pm on Friday and the staff were pleasant and professional. The place looks a bit run-down from outside, almost like an abandoned industrial estate, and the interior is dated, but the staff do a great job with what they’ve got. I was happy staying with two others. If I were a woman travelling alone, I’d think more carefully about security in the press and the area.

There are accessible parking spaces, but getting from reception to the bedrooms involves four steps, and there’s no lift. I had to be moved to a ground-floor room. The bathroom had no heating, so I dried my towels over a chair beside the heater, which wasn’t easy to operate. There were no USB chargers, and all the sockets were across the room from the bed. The room and bathroom both need a revamp. Other Travelodge hotels vary quite a bit, with some much better and some much worse.

We were surprised by how early the nearby fast-food places close, so check their opening hours if you’ll need them. There’s no restaurant for breakfast or dinner. The hotel is set at a service area on the A38 towards Cornwall, which wasn’t clear to me from the website and was a letdown for us, though it’ll suit some people. The room had the expected basics, but the furniture was damaged and everything looked very worn. It’s a very basic, dated Travelodge, and I wouldn’t come back.

The room was clean and a comfortable temperature, so it was fine for one night, though it could do with an upgrade. The TV in our room was on the table instead of facing the bed, which was a bit awkward but not a major issue. My daughter’s room had the TV directly opposite the bed.

The room stayed fairly quiet despite being near a roundabout, and it was clean and warm, like a service station room. It’s an okay cheap place to stay overnight. The walls seem quite thin, though, so noise from the room above was easy to hear early in the morning.
