Verzon House

Meredith, the new owner, gave us a warm welcome, and Chloe took great care of us all evening. Angela and I came back to Verzons House yesterday after a few months away, and we were so pleased with the meal. She had the burger, I had fish and chips, and both were perfectly cooked and generous portions. The atmosphere feels transformed into a happy, well-run place, with a talented chef. As hospitality people ourselves, we know good service when we see it, and Verzons has plenty of it. We’ll be back soon to try the new menus and will gladly recommend Verzons House to guests at White House Cottages.

A lovely warm stop on our journey, with a log fire and an inviting atmosphere. We had a great lunch at Verzon House, and the staff made us feel right at home. Our dogs were welcome too, so they could join us. Great food in a relaxed setting, and we’ll be back.

The dismissive response from management and lack of accountability made an already upsetting situation worse. Our confirmed accommodation booking was cancelled in favour of a more profitable event, which management admitted, saying 15k was much more appealing. This was especially disappointing because we’d booked for our wedding night. The explanation about double booking and the previous owners doesn’t match what we experienced, as the room showed as available when we booked. What should have been a special, memorable night was ruined. I wouldn’t recommend this venue.

Our £200 booking apparently mattered less than the money from a whole wedding. We booked a room for our wedding night, and the manager rudely and happily admitted she was cancelling it because another event would bring in more. The night was ruined, and I’d never use or recommend this place again. They can’t blame double booking or the previous owners: when we booked, the room was free and nothing else was booked. This was an amateurish, profit-first way to treat people, especially from a local business you’d expect to care.
