South Fork Guest House

The breakfast was poor. It was bacon, scrambled egg and beans, with a tea plate instead of a dinner plate and a cheap, horrible sausage. No hash browns, black pudding or tomatoes. The coffee seemed like cheap Booker or Makro, not Nescafe or another brand. Not worth it, and I wouldn’t stay again. Also, the owner's dog was barking at 3 in the morning. Think quilt.

Staff came into my room without permission within 20 minutes of check-in while I was out grabbing food. They’d closed the curtains and taken a towel, saying they were “looking for a remote.” That was a major invasion of privacy, and completely unacceptable and unprofessional.

The pricing was very good, and I’d stay again. Service was excellent, breakfast very good, and the parking was good too. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of hot water.

I left straight away and found a hotel five minutes away. The owners did give me a refund, which I appreciate, but the online reviews seem deceiving. At the hotel, staff told me I wasn’t the first person to leave this guesthouse for theirs. I didn’t get many pictures, but this is what I did get. When I arrived, a man wearing pyjamas and no shoes greeted me and showed me to my room. The smell in the property was strong and unpleasant, and it was even worse in the room. There were hairs all over the bed, though I couldn’t tell if they were from a dog or a person, plus spiders and flies. The new toilet roll in the bathroom looked like it had human feces on it. The owners have a dog, which their website doesn’t mention. Whenever someone rang the bell to be let in, it started barking. I immediately started looking for somewhere else to stay.
