Charlotte House

The location is excellent, right outside Lincoln Castle. The suites are okay, though the style is quite geared towards romance and weddings, and felt a bit old-fashioned to me. Our four-poster room was very dark and chintzy, but the bathroom was light and decent, with both a large bath and a shower.

After our first night, we realised our room overlooked the party taking place on the second night and told the staff. They couldn’t have done more to sort it out, especially Sally. We were moved to the beautiful bridal suite at no extra cost, and even got some free drinks at the bar. We’d been told about the party when we arrived for our two-night stay at Charlotte House. We highly recommend staying here and will do so again. Thanks once again 😁

We paid in advance on booking.com for one night, but didn’t stay. We found another very comfortable hotel nearby for the same price, with everything CHH didn’t have. Booking.com and the hotel have both refused a refund even though we never stayed. There was no lit sign outside, so we couldn’t find the hotel on arrival. It’s in the middle of a public car park and parking costs £10. The doors close at 9pm, there’s no bar or facilities, and the included breakfast is continental, not cooked or hot. The room was very basic, with just one towel for two people and only a shower. There are plenty of other hotels, and I’d avoid this one.

The hotel is in the historic Cathedral Quarter, within walking distance of Lincoln Castle, Lincoln Cathedral and Bailgate shops. The Orangery would be a lovely place for weddings and celebrations, and I’d like to stay at the hotel sometime. I went to a Lincoln Book Festival event in the high-ceilinged, light-filled Orangery on the ground floor. Near the lounge there’s a small bar with comfortable chairs and tables, plus shelves full of old books. The staff I spoke with were helpful and pleasant.
