Tavmar Rooms

The property was nicely presented, and the Brayford Room faced the road and a nightclub, so there was some noise, though not too much. The bed was softer than I like, and the pillows weren't great. I also wasn't keen on being asked to take rubbish downstairs to the bins when checking out. Entry was tricky: Tavmar Rooms uses codes for the main door and room, but I hadn't been sent them and waited outside for 25 minutes. There’s plenty of free parking from 5.30pm to 8.30am, and the location is good. I’d stay again if the price was right and lower than other places nearby.

Water from the room above came down the wall, over the door and onto the floor on both mornings, apparently when they used the shower or toilet. The Lincoln Room looked fine in the photos but was shabby in person. The shower took ages to warm up and was only tepid, and the floor had double-sided tape on it, presumably to hold down the very dirty rugs. The door code didn't work for ten minutes, which kicked off two miserable evenings. There's a £30 cleaning fee, yet a sign in the room warns of extra charges if you don't clean to their standard, including taking your own rubbish out to bins at the front where rats are clearly visible. I don't expect a Hilton at this price, but the difference from a good Lincoln hotel was small, and I won't stay here again.

We enjoyed sitting in the garden in the morning and at night, and the location was great. The garden room was clean and lovely, though the outdoor area could use some attention, like weeding, new plants and updated lights. A mini fridge for milk and alcohol would be a nice extra, just a suggestion. We'd use it again.

The shower was the best I've ever had, and the room was clean and right in the middle of Lincoln. Getting in was all codes, like being in the Crystal Maze, with no people involved and no fuss. If you prefer having people around, this may not suit you, but it worked great for me.
