We didn't stay, so I can't speak to the rooms, but we'll certainly return to eat and may well book one next time. The Old Bakery is a great idea, partly a finishing school for local catering college graduates, and it's only a few minutes' walk from historic Lincoln's centre. Service was relaxed, friendly, informal and efficient. The menu was fairly limited, which in our experience is a good sign, and the food was excellent in both quality and presentation. There was a good drinks menu too. First-class food and service at a reasonable price, five stars well deserved.

The restaurant made New Year's Eve unforgettable, with stunning food and great staff. We had a fantastic stay over New Year too. The accommodation was quaint and fully equipped, but night one of our two was a little chilly. If you left a limb outside the covers, the cold woke you. The bathroom was big, bright and clean, though chilly as well. It's an old building, but perhaps the bathrooms especially could use secondary double glazing.

I was very disappointed with the accommodation. The bathroom described as private was across a corridor and wouldn't lock, and there was a broken window that had already been documented on booking.com six months earlier. There was only one dining chair. This is described as budget accommodation, but it felt more like a hostel. I contacted staff and they first agreed to refund one night, then withdrew that offer because I had "chose to go elsewhere", which was because I was dissatisfied. Getting in felt unsafe in the dark: I couldn't park outside to unload bags, there was no outside lighting, and the garden gate was unlocked. The key safe was hard to reach in the dark and surrounded by several black plastic bags, possibly rubbish. The door was extremely heavy. Mark Taylor, Director of Business Development and Partnerships at Lincoln College, responded rudely, said the accommodation was acceptable, and refused the refund. He also considered the broken window and lack of outside lighting acceptable. My advice is to stay away and choose The Castle Hotel for an extra £20.00, where you can feel safe and enjoy the facilities and friendly staff. This review is about the accommodation, not the restaurant.

The Student Takeover night was fantastic, and it was a great way to celebrate our anniversary. It was affordable, the service was good, and the delicious food was made by Lincoln College students. I couldn't recommend it more.

I’m sharing this on my mum’s behalf. She ate there recently and thought the meal was overpriced. The beef tasted good, but the serving was tiny, and the vegetables weren’t cooked enough. The doughnut-and-ice-cream pudding didn’t really work either.
