The setting is lovely, and I’d come back for a summer drink, though I probably wouldn’t dine here again after this visit. We had a mix of food: the fish and chips were excellent and the Caesar salad was good, but the burgers and fillet steak seemed only average for the prices. The lemon posset tasted nice, though the large serving in a basic bowl felt like something I’d make at home; a martini glass or similar might present it better. The focaccia with the Camembert was lovely and tasted homemade, but the cheese arrived in its Président wrapper. I understand buying in produce and marking it up, but serving it in a dish or ramekin would feel better than paying restaurant prices for something easy to prepare at home. Our s’more had a hair in it. Staff replaced it quickly and apologized, which we appreciated, but we had to ask for it to be taken off the bill. I’d have expected that as a gesture. We were seated at a nicely laid table, and the more senior team member knew a lot about allergens, helpful for those of us with dietary requirements. At first, though, nobody greeted us. Three staff members were chatting behind the bar and acknowledged us only after I said we were there to eat. Service stayed uneven: some staff were friendly, others seemed disengaged and could use more customer service training. A few wore old or dirty trainers with their uniform, which took away from the special treat we’d hoped for. When we left, nobody thanked us or said goodbye, which I see as a basic part of hospitality. I’ve worked in hospitality myself, so I feel fairly well placed to offer that feedback.

We had a lovely weekend and the Seaview was part of what made it so. My son was running the marathon in Brighton, so we stayed just one night. The apartment was lovely, the staff very pleasant, and dinner was amazing. They were also very accommodating about my son being coeliac. Highly recommend, and thank you.

The atmosphere was incredible, and the staff really made the evening stand out. They were polite, knew their stuff, and there were plenty of them around. We came for the one-night “A day in Provence” meal and had a fabulous time. The food was excellent too, with delightful weather to round it off.

Spent a sunny afternoon in the garden, with a great atmosphere and a DJ playing a wide mix of music at a comfortable volume. It’s a good place to relax in the sun. I hadn’t been back for a while because it was far too expensive when it first reopened, but I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. There’s a decent choice of beers as well.

We arrived at 1:30 on Saturday after a long walk, expecting to get lunch, but were told food in the bar or garden was only available to people who had booked the restaurant in advance. Nobody mentioned this when we arrived and ordered drinks. We asked why others in the garden could order food while we couldn’t, and the older lady waitress gave us very poor service. We encountered her last year too and had a similar experience, so her communication doesn’t seem to have improved. We felt unwelcome despite being regulars of many years. There wasn’t even an apology for the inconvenience. Apparently, it was our fault for not phoning ahead to check. We left and found a warm, welcoming pub a minute away, where we got a lovely lunch without booking and excellent service. We’ll take our regular custom, and that of our local friends, elsewhere from now on.
