My daughter and I had a lovely stay in room 205 at 19 Duke st. My son had spontaneously booked it as a surprise while I was in Liverpool with his sister for her 14th birthday. Gill on the reception was so lovely from the start and made us feel welcome and comfortable. That meant a lot, as we don’t often stay away from home because I’m a full-time carer for my husband. The room was beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean, and the location is fabulous. When we checked out, they let us leave our belongings there while we spent the day exploring Liverpool, which gave us more time in the city. We’ll definitely recommend 19 Duke St and come back. Thank you so much for your hospitality. Regards, Julie xx

The location made our trip even better, with shops, cafes and bars right on the doorstep. We had a fantastic stay and will return next time we’re visiting. From the warm welcome when we arrived through the rest of our stay, the customer service was excellent. All the staff were attentive, friendly and happy to help with anything. A big thank you to Hannah, Mya and Jill. We really appreciated your effort and hospitality!

The room was just as advertised, with a lovely layout, and it was very comfortable. I had a fantastic stay at 19 Duke Street and in Liverpool, and I’ll definitely recommend it and return, God willing. I was a little lost at first because the place is somewhat hidden, but once I found it, the welcome was very warm. The receptionists were always helpful and gave me great information about getting around the city centre and nearby venues. Eva, the housekeeping leader, and her team were also really good. They told me when they’d come to refresh my room, which made it easier to plan my morning.

The rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. There was building work nearby, but we barely noticed it. The location is great for shopping, food and bars, and far enough from the city centre chaos to stay quiet. Job well done. I’ll definitely be back. It was so close to a 5 star. I’m being picky taking off a star, and would’ve given 4.5 if I could, but there was no internet, which was a bit of a pain. And “Gill on the Till” is an absolute legend. She was lovely to chat with, pointed out local places and where to go, and we had a good natter.

The location is superb, and the receptionists are great. Without those two things, I’d give it one star. I wanted to enjoy this hotel, but couldn’t. It’s supposedly four stars, though it really doesn’t feel that way. The shower is tiny, and at over 180cm I could barely fit. There’s no proper shower door, so water runs onto the floor and onto the ledge that goes around the whole bathroom. It’s at a 90 degree angle, so water fills it and stays there, leaving the bathroom waterlogged all night. After cleaning, there was a bleach-like smell, the kind that seems to cover up mould or another bad odour. During our four-day stay, the bed covers were never changed. There was no toilet brush, and we had to ask for toilet paper refills. Those little issues added up, so we went to the local tesco to buy toilet paper, shower gel and the toilet cleaning items we needed. We also had to keep the windows open to deal with the bleach smell, since there’s no ventilation except for the bathroom fan, which you have to switch on manually.
