The biggest concern is that a man was given a key to a room full of women. We were six of us staying there for a hen weekend, and what first seemed like a nice place quickly became a nightmare. The room looked passable on arrival, but closer inspection showed poor upkeep and dirt throughout. The jet bath didn’t work at all. We got back in the early hours to find the main entrance locked. The receptionist let us in and said, 'Sorry, there are a few looneys about tonight'. We thought they were being cautious. A couple of hours later, we woke to find a strange man asleep in our room. We were terrified. He woke up confused when we switched on the lights and then left. We asked him to try his key card on our door, and it opened it perfectly. He seemed harmless and had apparently had too much to drink, but the situation could easily have ended in serious harm, assault or worse. It was a major failure of security. Some of us went straight to reception for an explanation. CCTV showed he had simply walked in, given a random room number and been handed a key. Nobody checked ID, matched names or verified anything. When we challenged this, the receptionist said, 'At least it’s a good story to tell'. I’ve never heard anything so dismissive, disrespectful and unprofessional. We explained the whole incident to the manager when he arrived. He admitted their system was down that night, but said staff had a full paper record they should have used to check details properly. They chose not to. We contacted the police. They know about what happened, but said they couldn’t take formal action because technically no crime had occurred. This was a serious breach of our safety, privacy and duty of care. We’ve all been left anxious, shaken and completely let down. The way it was handled was appalling, and I don’t trust this hotel to keep guests safe. I’d warn anyone considering a booking not to risk it. We’re disgusted and will never return.

The location was great, with everything within walking distance, and Ava and Joe gave us a lovely start to our weekend. They were friendly and the service was superb. It was our first stay here and we had a great time, though the room could have been nicer and the fridge didn’t work. We were directly above the bars and clubs, and the windows let in so much noise it felt like they were in the room with us. That made sleeping difficult. Better quality windows would improve the stay. We’d love to come back, thank you!

Charlotte, Joe and Ava were so sweet and looked after us from the moment we arrived. They made us comfortable and answered all our questions, which made the stay really pleasant. We had a gorgeous, lovely warm tub, and noise was never an issue. We had the best night at the art house hotel. I’d definitely recommend it for a big group of friends or a hen do, and I’ll be back 🤍

We booked the bottomless brunch for the following day, and after we complained, it was moved to another venue. We appreciated that, and everyone thanked the restaurant personally. But the rest of the weekend was shocking. For a stay costing over £3250, the service from beginning to end was disgraceful. We were 13 people there for a friend’s 40th birthday on 27th February. In the room, the bath leaked all weekend, leaving it damp and humid, and the beds were damp too. There was a smell, the fridge didn’t work, and the room needed a proper clean and some care. It had one toilet and two showers. None of these problems were fixed. On Friday 27th February, we had a 7pm booking at Ceasars restaurant and had told them we needed to leave by 8.30. The service was terrible. We were given just one menu printed on a sheet of paper to share, and staff gave conflicting explanations of some dishes. After 8pm we found staff sitting at a table drinking wine and beer. One woman told a man not to get involved, then walked away. The manager told us they couldn’t serve our main courses because they didn’t have the ingredients for what we’d ordered. We had to leave after starters, and the staff’s attitude was appalling. We made a formal complaint in person and by email about the room, but got no reply. We’re still waiting for the £650 refund. Several of us, including me, tried calling and got no answer. We were told to expect a response within 3 working days and the deposit back within 7. Tomorrow will be day 14, with no response and no refund. They’ve made no effort to apologize or reimburse us.

It’s a quirky place for a little getaway with friends or family. The rooms are warm and welcoming, with plenty of beds, and there’s a restaurant and bar on site. I found the hotel relaxing, though there are clubs nearby to be aware of. There are spacious rooms to choose from, and I moved from the first floor to the second for a more private view. The staff were keen to help, especially Jo at reception, who deserves a big thank you. Bold Street and the town centre are an easy walk away for restaurants and shopping.
