The front door closer was never fixed, which felt like a fire hazard. The fire alarm was also left unfixed even though it went off at least once a week. The living room light was promised before we moved in but never repaired. Getting a water meter reading took another two weeks of badgering, after we'd already spent two weeks chasing the landlord just to sign the contract. He took the rent and did nothing unless we practically harassed him. The building was still a construction site, with all the noise that came with it. Many rooms had less privacy than a prison cell because of the poor conversion. The hot water wasn't hot, water pressure was nonexistent, and the internal electrical wiring seemed dubious. Other tenants told me they'd had exactly the same experience with the landlord. I lived there for six months, among the worst of my life. You can do better. Don't live here, even short term. This was one of the most appalling rental arrangements I've ever had the misfortune to sign up for. Don't give this man your money. He doesn't deserve it.

We moved to Liverpool and wanted to be near the city centre, so we chose Irwell Chambers. We've lived here for over 2 years, and it's been the best call we made. The location is ideal, and although I see some reviews mention noise, we've had no issues with it during our time here. The other tenants are welcoming, and they've made us feel part of a community. We've made lots of friends. The maintenance team is friendly and accommodating, and any problems get resolved. The apartments are modern, welcoming, and homely, with very good value on a long-term lease. We feel it's a safe, friendly place to live close to the centre. The building has had major investment, including completely new decor throughout, improvements and refurbishment, and new high-spec apartments. Some of the negative reviews are about short stays managed by a different company that sublet many apartments for weekends. I understand that company caused a lot of problems and has been removed from the contract. The current owners have taken the apartments back and now manage all rentals and leases themselves with a completely new team. We didn't know the area when we first moved, but we're very glad we chose Irwell Chambers. I'd definitely recommend it.

The windows didn't close properly, which led to damp and more mould, and there was black mould on all the walls and windows. Heaters didn't work and fell off the walls. Nothing was done about them through the whole winter before we moved out. The landlord ignored almost all messages, and I can't stress enough that nothing was fixed. With no higher-ups or building manager, we had to rely on him, and he simply didn't care. The place felt like a construction site. We were told the lift would be ready in October 2020, but it still wasn't. Fire alarms went off most days at 3am, yet once there was an actual fire and they didn't go off. Front doors and mailboxes had no security, and our packages and personal documents were stolen several times. There was also a constant pile of rubbish outside the door in the alleyway. We would have left sooner if the contract hadn't tied us in. The landlord didn't even send it until moving-in day. The location is good and the landlord seemed very nice, but he couldn't run an apartment building. We spent a lot of time trying to fix things ourselves with help from a neighbour. I'd never go back.

The owner kept my deposit by ignoring us and never putting it in DPS. There was no lift. They'd say it was being maintained, but it was just an empty lift shaft. The landlord was dodgy and hadn't registered the properties, so Airbnb landlords who never even visit the place had taken over and were advertising it with a bunch of lies. This is the worst place I've ever lived.

Those six months were the worst of my life. The flat was in a shambles, with leaking taps, noisy boilers, mould on the walls and cracked windows. We were shown a newly furnished place at first and led to believe ours would be the same. It wasn't. The family who own Irewell chambers clearly have the means to maintain it, which makes it especially sad that they're willing to let people live like this. They showed no concern about our conditions and were no help at all. I'd avoid the place at any cost, even if it were the last place to spend a night. Landlords from hell.
