The King Harry Bar & Hostel

It’s a lovely old building, just a two minute walk from the stadium, and close to shops. The shared spaces are poor and the dorm rooms need a good makeover. The building needs a lot of work, and there’s no reception or staffed area. You have to call to get in and out, and there’s a key lock, which feels very iffy after hours. The area is dark and not well lit. Not the best option, with better places around. Use it as a last resort.

The real appeal is the atmosphere and location, right in the heart of the Anfield spirit. It feels like a fortress beside Anfield, with old English architecture and a homely Liverpool feel. The downstairs bar is lively, decked out in red with trophy wall designs, and fans coming and going. The rooms are secure and fine. A perfect spot for any Liverpool fan.

A good guest house for football fans, with shared facilities and a great pub. It’s quiet during the week, then comes alive on match days.

For a budget stay, I’d recommend it. The place is handy for the stadium and bus stop, and my room was warm and tidy, though pretty basic. I stayed on a Monday and it was very quiet. The kitchen is really just a small fridge and kettle, so you’ll need to go out for food.
