The Mountford Hotel - Free Parking

I had a frustrating stay today because of the way the room situation was handled. My mother had booked a room for two, then my younger sister joined our trip. When we arrived, the room had one double bed and one single, despite the booking being for two people. We offered to pay extra for a third guest and breakfast so all three of us could stay together, since there was enough room. We’re a family, a mother and her two daughters, aged 23 and 16, but the request was refused and we were told to take another room, which we declined. Four hours after that conversation, by which time I’d booked and paid for another hotel, they called to say we could stay in the same room after all. The pointless discussion and illogical decisions ruined our night. Whatever the hotel looks like or what service might be like in future, I wouldn’t recommend it because the managers seem to lack logic. 🤡

The hotel is in a good spot, with private parking or free parking on the street, and the staff were very helpful. Our room was clean, but its decor was dated or damaged, and damp seemed to have been an issue there in the past. The hotel itself felt very tired and badly in need of an update. The other rooms we saw had similar decor.

Parking was easy, with plenty of spaces at the hotel and on nearby streets. The area felt peaceful and safe, and the room was clean and quiet, simple but comfortable for a good night’s sleep. Shops, restaurants and bars are close by, as is the city centre, so it was easy to go out for food or a drink. The hotel was well maintained and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. I enjoyed my stay and would come back or recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet, convenient place. Breakfast was the only small disappointment: I’d expected a little more variety, though it was still fine.

I was surprised to see the £50 deposit policy in the terms when my son and I found this hotel by chance during a short trip to Liverpool. I hadn’t come across that at many hotels before, but after staying there, I understand why they ask for it. The hotel is in a very old, mostly wooden building that’s been remarkably well preserved. The rooms have elegant, valuable furniture rather than standard hotel pieces, along with a beautiful rug and charming curtains, windows and fittings. A deposit makes sense given the room and its furnishings. The neighbourhood is quiet, and the city centre is only about ten minutes away by bus. We also enjoyed walking through the two large parks nearby. I was very pleased with the stay and would choose the hotel again if I return to Liverpool.
