We’re extremely disappointed with how our booking at Pen Isa’r Llan, marketed as luxury holiday accommodation, was handled. It had been confirmed since August 2025, but our stay for the upcoming bank holiday weekend was cancelled less than a week beforehand. We’d spent months planning a friendship celebration for seven families, including 11 children. While getting ready for the trip, we tried several times to contact owner Lowri and got no reply. The cancellation eventually came through cottages.com, without a direct explanation or apology from the owner. We’ve since been told the property no longer accepts group bookings, yet it remains advertised and available on other platforms, including Airbnb. That raises serious concerns about transparency and reliability. With so little notice during a peak holiday period, we couldn’t find affordable alternatives. It caused major inconvenience, disappointment and financial implications for everyone involved. I’d advise others to be cautious, especially when booking as a group, and hope the owners improve their communication and accountability.

We had a very special family holiday and can’t wait to come back. Bala town and the lake are beautiful and within walking distance. The house, cottages and outdoor areas were spotless, so kudos to the cleaning team. Our group of 25 ranged in age from 7 to 70, and there was plenty of room for being together or getting some quiet time without it ever feeling too much. The house is really well designed, with quality furniture, decor, crockery and glassware. The outdoor hot tub, sauna and cold plunge tub were fantastic additions that everyone enjoyed. A couple more large pans and cooking utensils would be handy for groups cooking together. We brought our own, so it was fine and didn’t take away from how amazing the house is. Thank you.

We had a wonderful family holiday in this spacious, beautiful home. The four properties were all spotless, with lovely pots and gorgeous flowers, and the pictures don’t quite capture how lovely the inside and outside are. The kids especially liked the attic rooms, sauna, hot tub and plunge pool, and so did we. The decor is gorgeous, everything’s finished to a high standard, and the grounds are stunning. It’s ideally located for exploring North Wales. The owners were helpful and easy to reach. Thank you for an amazing stay :)

As a photographer, I loved working at this quaint, charming venue in Wales. It’s well thought out, with everything in one place, and the main house and outer cottages can sleep up to 30 guests, making it convenient for weddings of different sizes. The renovated interiors feel modern but still rustic and homely, which photographs beautifully. The wedding barn is a stunning backdrop for ceremonies and receptions, and the lake across the way is perfect for romantic portraits. Sheep dotted around the surrounding countryside add to the relaxed feel. From an elopement to a full wedding celebration, the venue seems suited to it all. You can see the care the owners have put into the place. As a photographer, it’s a joy to capture, with beautiful corners and backdrops everywhere.

The place was very clean and modern, in a beautiful location with lots of parking. It’s a 20-minute walk into bala and good for dogs. The shower was hot and powerful. But we weren’t given any information on the cooker, underfloor heating or how to set up the wifi. There were hardly any glasses, just one wine glass and two flutes, one chipped, and the plates were cracked. When we mentioned it, the owner didn’t seem very fussed, said the glasses were probably in the other apartments, and didn’t sort it out. The electric charger didn’t work, which cost us a lot extra to use the one in town. We’d booked this place specifically for the charger. The beds were very high and not very comfortable, with only one pillow. The lounge had four seats, but they were upright, cramped close together and uncomfortable after a long day out. The bathroom was tiny, even for me and I’m small, and the towels were tiny too. There was only one toilet roll, so we had to make another trip to the shop. It was a nice place, but lacking in some areas.
