Once we were checked in, the place felt warm and friendly, with good food and great service. Dinner was faultless both nights, and the Galley clearly has a following among locals and visitors. It's dog friendly, though dogs aren't allowed in the main dining room. That makes sense, and you can eat in the main bar if you can't leave them. The hotel has two very different sides: the black and gold decor, with black bedding and sink and gold and black curtains, sofa and cushions in the entrance, didn't feel like a country inn to me. We spent a fabulous few days in a beautiful part of the world.

I booked The Gallery of Lorne Inn through Expedia on 4 October 2025, about an hour before we arrived. The property already had no power because of a regional storm, but this wasn't disclosed when I booked. That evening the hotel was completely dark and unusable, with no lights, heat or working facilities. Staff there were courteous and confirmed there was no electricity and, under the booking terms, they couldn't accommodate guests. We had to leave and book another hotel in Oban. I've contacted Expedia and the hotel several times since. Expedia said they reached the property, but the owner wouldn't approve a refund, citing the “non-refundable” policy even though we couldn't stay. Staff later told Expedia they weren't allowed to confirm the outage publicly and only the owner could speak. He hasn't responded to repeated calls and emails. This isn't a complaint about the weather. It's about being charged for a service the business couldn't provide, and the lack of transparency that left us stranded. I've travelled internationally for decades and never had a property fail to provide a stay and then refuse to take responsibility like this. The issue is still ongoing, but travellers deserve to know what happened. Until it's resolved, I strongly recommend avoiding this property. Scotland's hospitality industry is built on honesty, and this was the complete opposite.

The one-woman service was fantastic, but I would never stay here again. I got food poisoning from the burger and fries and spent all night throwing up in the very large bathroom. The room decor was strange, and the black bedding with rhinestones on the duvet and pillowcase felt uncomfortable and unclean. The stones cut into me while I slept.

The restaurant's gorgeous view came with delicious food, and breakfast was very good with plenty to eat. We had a lovely three-night stay on our way up to Loch Ness. The location is beautiful, and our room was nicely decorated, comfortable and well equipped. Laura and Amanda were especially welcoming, friendly and helpful, and Andrew had great local knowledge and suggestions for places to visit. Definitely worth staying.

Breakfast was amazing, and the chef was delightful. We slept well in a comfortable room with an amazing bed, and it had absolutely everything we needed. Dinner at the restaurant was tasty and, in our view, excellent value. We'd return.
