The room was cramped, with nowhere to put a suitcase except on the bed, and the mattress springs were noticeable. During the London heatwave, the little fan and lack of airflow made being in the room during the day pretty unbearable. The lift was broken too, with lots of stairs to deal with. What really pushed me to write this was checkout. My partner and I left at 11:15am, then asked whether our bags could be held for an hour while we got breakfast. The woman at the desk charged £20, including £5 for each bag and even my small crossbody bag. That seemed excessive for an hour, especially since a luggage storage place 100 meters away charged less. She answered rudely and showed no understanding. I've stayed in London more than a dozen times and never paid such a high price at a hotel for this, with that attitude. When we came back, our luggage was still beside the desk, unlocked and unattended, with guests in the lobby and a queue at reception. I hope nothing was taken, but I can't understand being charged that much when the bags weren't even secured in the luggage room. For the small saving on the room, you end up paying in other ways. Looking back, I wish I'd chosen another hotel.

The lift stayed out of order for our entire week, and the hotel smelled bad and looked dirty from the entrance to the rooms. The flooring looked ancient. There was no fridge in the room, and no air conditioning. The fan they provided was so noisy it kept me awake. When I asked to put my things in a fridge, they told me they could watch me on camera and gave me a complicated set of directions downstairs to find it. Honestly, this was the most disgusting hotel I've ever stayed in. If you have any self-respect, don't go there, and don't be fooled by the photos.

My uncle and cousin stayed here, and the service was awful. They were given just one access card for two people, and staff refused to provide another. The reception guy was incredibly annoying. We had booked and paid through booking.com, so there was little we needed to discuss, but he managed to irritate us in less than two minutes. Unbelievable. The lift is broken too. Just choose somewhere else in the area, you won't find a worse place to stay.

We stayed at Ascot hotel for a couple of days, my brother and I, and it was better than we expected. Our room was very clean, with daily cleaning, and had good facilities like a hair dryer, soap, shampoo, kettle, tea and coffee. The reception staff were helpful and nice, and the price felt excellent for the quality. I don't understand the bad reviews, as the place was clean and modern. We'll stay here again next time. The location in Paddington was perfect too, just a 3-4 minute walk to the tube station. We walked to most attractions and didn't need public transport.

The place was horrible, and the smoke smell made my pregnant sister feel sick. We said we couldn't stay because the smell wasn't good for her, but they refused to refund us. They say the hotel is smoke-free, yet it smelled of smoke. There was no AC, everything looked dirty, and there were bugs. I don't think it's worth the price or the location. I'm convinced the reviews of 3 stars or more are fake or paid for.
