Glendevon House Hotel

My daughters loved having their own room with double twin beds. We were in the area visiting friends, and the rooms were really nice. I’ll stay here again next time we visit.

The room was clean and the beds comfortable, though it felt overpriced for what we got. The woman working there was great, but the night staff seemed miserable and had loud conversations in reception. Our room door opened onto reception, where there was a weed smell under a masked air freshener scent. The shower pressure was weak.

We were moved to a slightly larger room after the first bathroom felt so tiny it was making us claustrophobic. Thanks to the staff members who helped with that. The room was clean, but the hotel otherwise felt more like two stars: dated decor, poor upkeep, limited facilities, and shockingly poor treatment from staff. The manager and staff were aggressive and rude when enforcing a policy that visitors who weren’t paying guests couldn’t enter the property. We couldn’t find this policy in the room, at reception, or on any website. Most hotels don’t ban daytime visitors. Since the rate is nightly, I don’t see why it should matter if a few people visit for 30 minutes during the day, as long as paying guests stay overnight. They could have told us beforehand, but their reaction afterward really upset and stressed my parents. The room itself was incredibly dated and tiny, with nowhere to put bags; once opened on the floor, they blocked movement. What looked like a wardrobe was actually the bathroom, which was unbelievably small, and the TV was more like a desktop monitor. I wanted to give one star, but the staff did move us. We’d be much better off at the Premier Inn, where at least we’d know what to expect, including respect.

Breakfast was decent, though it arrived in a strange order and they ran out of butter for the toast. I wouldn’t stay here again. The hotel feels very tired, and while check-in was friendly, they asked for extra breakfast money that we thought was included. They said we could pay later, then asked again at checkout for a different amount, which was confusing. Our tiny room was unpleasant: a horrible shower with hairs, only half a toilet roll and no spare, a TV hanging off the wall, and a remote that worked only if you stood right in front of it. We reported the TV issue, but it wasn’t fixed. The ancient bed was uncomfortable with hardly any space around it. The net curtains were dirty, the room door looked as if it had been kicked in several times, and the bathroom door wouldn’t stay shut and rested against the bed when open.
