Hotel Henry VIII

That little lobby cafe and its excellent breakfast were a lifesaver after my 25 hour journey. I stayed for two weeks and absolutely loved it. The location is great, with Queensway and Paddington station in walking distance. Staff were amazing from the moment I arrived, and the app was a handy addition that made everything easy to access and understand. 10/10, would recommend.

Breakfast was a highlight, with a good buffet choice of hot food, pastries and cereal, plus self service hot and cold drinks. The bed was comfortable with a nice duvet, and I slept well. The pool and sauna are available, though calling it a spa feels like a stretch, and there are no lockers for securing your belongings. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from Paddington Station and close to Hyde Park. At check in, I found it a little hard to make myself understood because the receptionist's English wasn't quite fluent. My room was basic, as you'd expect from a budget hotel, but the decor was poorly finished: the laminate floor was badly fitted and the furniture looked tired. The en suite was finished to a better standard. The air conditioning showed an error when I arrived. I asked the front desk if someone could look at it, but was told the hotel's air conditioning wasn't working and shown the ceiling fan switch instead. With the high ceiling, I barely felt the fan's effect. The dining room decor also looked tired. The positives outweigh the negatives, and it's a decent London budget option if you can live with the drawbacks. The building could use some care, and then it might score higher.

Just a couple of minutes from Hyde Park and under five minutes on foot from several tube stations, the hotel is very conveniently placed. My room was clean and nicely presented, comfortable rather than luxurious, and had everything I needed, including complimentary drinks and toiletries. The old building has thin walls and creaky floors, which unfortunately disturbed my sleep. Still, I would book again and recommend it to a friend.

The staff were lovely and helpful, and the pool was pleasantly warm. Our room was clean but very cramped, and breakfast was standard hotel fare. The location is fantastic. Inside, the place gets shabbier the further you go, and the interior badly needs a remodel, despite the nice exterior. If you're out all day and only need somewhere to sleep, I'd recommend it, though I'd look elsewhere if there are better options at the same price.
